LORD'S RULING AGAINST DETAINING FOREIGN NATIONALS

Free Babar Ahmad would like congratulate the families and supporters of the foreign nationals who have been detained without charge for three years now. The ruling by the House of Lords law lords, with a majority of eight to one, makes it clear that measures now need to be enforced to either charge those nine foreign nationals or release them and allow them to return to their families. We hope that those individuals who have been wrongfully detained are allowed to return to their families and rebuild their lives.

Babar Ahmad, from Woodhill prison, commented on the jubilancy with which the ruling had been welcomed by the foreign nationals and other inmates held in Woodhill. One such individual affected by the decision, who is an Algerian national, said that some people will talk about David Blunkett and the way he has lost his job, alongside him fighting for his son. However this foreign national has lost his job and has a son who cries every time he sees him as he does not recognise his father. Where is the justice there? Where is the sympathy from the people?

We hope that the Home Office will now realise the injustice that has taken place against these foreign nationals and either charge them or release them soon. We also hope that in the same way Babar is returned to his family and is not extradited to the country which invented Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib. Likewise Free Babar Ahmad calls on the government to either charge Babar and give him a fair open trial in this country or release him.
